Karl Wüstefeld

Karl Wüstefeld (born January 19, 1857 in Obernfeld , † January 24, 1937 in Duderstadt ) was a German rector , composer , organist and local history researcher .

Life

Karl Wüstefeld attended the Progymnasium in Duderstadt and the teachers' seminar in Hildesheim from 1873 to 1876 . From 1876 to 1879 he was a teacher in Bolzum in the Hildesheim district and from 1879 to 1922 teacher and rector of the elementary school in Duderstadt. He also taught from 1899 to 1930 at the commercial vocational school in Duderstadt, which he was appointed to head in 1910. He played a key role in founding a preparation facility at the Progymnasium in Duderstadt.

From 1884 he was cantor and choirmaster and from 1894 until his death in 1937 organist at the St. Cyriakus Church in Duderstadt, as the direct successor of the then well-known piano and organ virtuoso Joseph Maria Homeyer . He was a student of Engelbert Humperdinck . He was also the composer of numerous sacred and secular works.

Since it was founded in 1906, he was chairman of the Untereichsfeld local history association .

Karl Wüstefeld published 17 books and numerous essays on the legends of Eichsfeld , on the school system, on church history, on pilgrimages, on church singing, on old trades, on geology and landscape studies as well as on local and personal history. He is remembered in Eichsfeld as a promoter of the religious and cultural togetherness of Upper and Lower Field and as a researcher and chronicler of Christian customs.
