The Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde e. V. , based in Heiligenstadt, is an association for research into the history and local history of the Eichsfeld .

history

The Eichsfeld local history association was first founded in Leinefelde in 1906 in the former restaurant Zur Insel . The organ of the association was the magazine Unser Eichsfeld . A union with the local history association of the Lower Field , which was also founded in 1906 , did not succeed at first. In the first year after it was founded, the association had around 240 members, in 1911 there were 850, mainly from the Obereichsfeld. In June 1915 the Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde in Heiligenstadt and the Heimatkundlichen Verein Untereichsfeld / Duderstadt came together to form the Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde with the two groups Heiligenstadt and Duderstadt . The association's activities were not only intended to strengthen the Eichsfelder homeland idea at home, but also to the Eichsfelder who had emigrated abroad since the 19th century, and various local groups of the association finally merged to form the union of Eichsfeld associations abroad . The First World War and the subsequent inflationary period brought numerous restrictions in the work of the association for a number of years.

During the time of National Socialism, the association was adjusted and brought into line , and public news and publications became increasingly rare. Partly the local history association work was continued by NS-related organizations, such as the NSLB . During the Second World War , regular activities were no longer possible and the association finally dissolved in 1943 and sales of the association's body ceased.

After the end of the war, initially in the Soviet occupation zone and then in the GDR, no state-independent association work was desired, but from 1960 the Eichsfeld Heimathefte , published by the Worbis Pedagogical District Cabinet and the Kulturbund der DDR , appeared regularly as a local history series . In 1950, the Heimatverein Goldene Mark was founded in Untereichsfeld and published the homonymous magazine of the same name. After the political change in the GDR and the reunification , the Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde was re-established in September 1991 and the association magazine Unser Eichsfeld appeared again in 1991 and 1992. This was finally discontinued in 1993 and the Eichsfeld yearbook was published together with the Lower Field Association Goldene Mark.
