Martin Weinrich (born May 21, 1865 in Uder ; † August 15, 1925 in Heilbad Heiligenstadt ) was a Catholic teacher and author.

Life

Martin Weinrich was born the son of a carpenter in Uder . From 1880 to 1885 he attended the preparandy and the teachers' seminar in Heiligenstadt im Eichsfeld . From 1885 to 1892 he worked as a junior teacher in Dingelstädt , from 1892 to 1918 in the diaspora of Magdeburg-Neustadt, where he was particularly active in social and charitable tasks. He was mainly dedicated to the workers and their children and was the guardian of many orphans. Because of a nervous and heart condition, he had to leave school in 1918 and retire. He chose a residence in Heiligenstadt and continued his charitable work there. He was also a board member of the Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde. Since Weinrich was very attached to his homeland, he occasionally wrote verses in Eichsfeld's dialect as a teacher. After moving to Heiligenstadt, he was urged by friends to put Eichsfeld stories into dialect rhymes and publish them in the "Eichsfeldia". They were eventually collected by him and published in book form. His grave is in Heiligenstadt on the old cemetery above the spa gardens.

The Heimatverein in Uder is named after Weinrich. In Heiligenstadt a path bears his name. On October 30, 2016, Weinrich's bronze bust was unveiled in Uder (artist: Heimo Ertl , * 1943).
