Heimo Ertl
Heimo Ertl (born October 6, 1943 in Uder ) is a German English scholar and sculptor. From 1998 to 2007 he was director of the Caritas-Pirckheimer-Haus (CPH) in Nuremberg and the Academy of the Archdiocese of Bamberg located there .
life and work
School and university
Ertl received his education in 1949 at the primary school in Uder, from 1950 to 1954 (after the return of his father from Soviet captivity) at the elementary school St. Josef in Ingolstadt and from 1954 to 1964 (Abitur) at the Christoph-Scheiner-Gymnasium there . From 1964 to 1966 he did military service. He left the Bundeswehr as a first lieutenant in the reserve.
From 1966 he studied English, German, philosophy and education at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and at the University of London (Westfield College). In addition, he was from 1969 to 1970 teaching assistant at Kirkcaldy High School in Kirkcaldy , Scotland . In 1972 he passed the state examination for teaching German and English at grammar schools in Erlangen and was lecturer in the German Department at St. Andrews University from 1973 to 1974 . From 1974 to 1984 he was a research assistant to Karl Josef Höltgen at the Institute for English and American Studies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (1976 doctorate, 1984 habilitation). In 1984 he was appointed private lecturer (teaching position: Australian, New Zealand and Indo-English literature). In 1985 he gave guest lectures and seminars on Australian and English literature at universities in Australia. From 1992 to 2007 he was an adjunct professor for English literature in Erlangen.
Catholic Academy
From 1984 to 1998 Ertl was deputy director of the Caritas-Pirckheimer-Haus (CPH) Nuremberg and the Academy of the Archdiocese of Bamberg Caritas-Pirckheimer-Haus, Nuremberg, then director of both institutions until 2007. From 1985 to 2016 he was a member of the Archbishopric Ecumenical Commission of the Archdiocese of Bamberg, from 1995 to 2000 head of the working group "Catholic Social Teaching" in the Working Group on Catholic Social Educational Institutions (AKSB) and from 1995 to 2005 deputy chairman of the leading group of the Catholic Academies in Germany.
art
Ertl has been working as a freelance artist (sculptor) in Effeltrich since 2007 and has created several sculptures in public spaces. Since 2003 he has been deputy chairman of the Oskar Koller Foundation in Erlangen.
