Pierre Le Faguays (* 1892 in Nantes , France , † September 8, 1962 in Paris , France) was a French Art Deco sculptor . He also used the stage names Fayral , Laurel and Pierre Laurel .

Life

During the First World War , Le Faguays got to know the sculptors Marcel Bouraine and Max Le Verrier while they were prisoners of war in Germany. They remained friends throughout their lives and often worked together. He studied with both of them at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva . Here he was a student of the sculptor James Vibert .

Le Faguays had a daughter with Georgette Hayot, who had modeled for him, but he later married the artist Raymonde Guerbe . Their marriage was childless.

After the Second World War he worked as a painter on the Place du Tertre in the Paris district of Montmartre .

After his death he was laid to rest in the Fontenay-lès-Briis cemetery .

Works (selection)

In Paris, Le Faguays had his statuettes made by the foundries Susse Frères , Edmond Etling , Max Le Verrier, Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann , M. Ollier and the foundry of the Austrian Arthur Goldscheider, a son of Friedrich Goldscheider . He was a member of the artist groups La Stèle (modern sculpture) and L'Evolution (decorative arts and crafts) founded by Arthur Goldscheider .

Le Faguays also made lamps and decorative objects. He mostly worked with materials such as terracotta , pâte de verre , stone, zinc, wood, alabaster , wrought iron, bronze and ivory . Several of Le Faguays' works were purchased by the city of Paris, including Pureté (purity, 1927), Danse rythmique (rhythmic dance, 1930) and Tête d'Enfant ( child bust , 1933).
