Place du Tertre
The Place du Tertre is one of the most famous sights in Paris . It is located at a height of 130 m in the 18th arrondissement approx. 200 m west of Sacré-Cœur and is considered the heart of the Montmartre district .
Most of the development of the square dates from the 18th century . At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous painters such as Pablo Picasso and Maurice Utrillo lived there ; the area around the square was considered the center of modern art.
Today there are numerous stands of caricaturists and painters on the square , which are primarily aimed at tourists as customers. The condition for opening a stand is the possession of a concession , which is considered to be very popular and difficult to obtain.
There are small cafes and restaurants on the ground floors of the surrounding houses .
