Raymonde Guerbe (* 1894 in Paris , France ; † 1995 ) was a French sculptor of Art Deco . She also used the stage name Andreé Guerval .

Life

Raymonde Guerbe was a student at the Parisian dance school of the dancer and choreographer Isadora Duncan and her brother Raymond Duncan in 1919 , where she took part in numerous performances.

As a sculptor, Guerbe worked with a wide variety of materials, including bronze , ceramics , ivory and terracotta . At the Salon d'Automne she showed her work from 1923 to 1927 as well as in 1934, 1936 and 1938. In 1923 she exhibited figures of Breton women made of ebony and a stone sculpture. In the following year she showed a portrait bust and a polished statuette of a young girl made of copper. In 1925 she presented bas-reliefs with the titles La roue ( French Das Rad ) and Aurore (Aurora). Much of her bronze work was done by the Parisian foundries Susse Frères , Edmond Etling , Max Le Verrier and Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann . She also worked as a painter.

Guerbe was married to the sculptor Pierre Le Faguays . She was the model for his sculptures, including a terracotta bust that he showed at the Salon d'Automne in 1926. He also painted a portrait of her, which was exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1931 . The couple remained childless. Works with her signature Raymonde Guerbe and her stage name Andrée Guerval are often incorrectly ascribed to her husband.
