Marianne Heimbach-Steins

Marianne Heimbach-Steins (born January 26, 1959 in Cologne ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and academic representative of Christian social teaching .

Life

Heimbach-Steins studied Catholic theology and German language and literature in Bonn , Würzburg and Friborg in Switzerland from 1977 to 1983 , during her studies and her doctorate she received a scholarship from the Cusanuswerk Episcopal Study Fund . In 1983 she passed the first state examination, from 1983 to 1985 she completed the legal clerkship for teaching at various high schools in Bavaria and passed the second state examination. From 1987 to 1996 she worked as an assistant at the Institute for Christian Social Sciences at the Westphalian Wilhelms University (WWU) in Münster .

In 1988 she obtained a doctorate in theology from the University of Würzburg . In 1989 she married Georg Steins . She completed her habilitation in 1994 in Münster on the subject of " Distinguishing between spirits - structural moment in Christian social ethics: depicted in Madeleine Delbrel's work". From 1996 to 2009 she held the chair for “ Christian Social Teaching and General Sociology of Religion ” at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg . Since October 2009 she has been a professor in Münster and heads the Institute for Christian Social Sciences at the Westphalian Wilhelms University . In this role she is editor of the Yearbook for Christian Social Sciences . The Institute for Christian Social Sciences also publishes “Social-Ethical Working Papers” on current social, political and church issues and various book series, such as the current “Society-Ethics-Religion” series at Verlag Schöningh . Andreas Lienkamp , Daniel Bogner and Alexander Filipović completed their habilitation under her guidance .

From 2011 to 2015 she was Chairwoman of the University Council of Bamberg University. From 2013 to 2018 she was the main applicant in the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics" and in 2015 she was a founding member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research (ZIN) at the University of Münster, where she was a member of the board until 2019. She has also been Vice Dean for Research, Internationalization and Young Academics at the University's Catholic Theological Faculty since 2015 . Since October 2018, she and Judith Könemann have headed the Gender Research Unit of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Münster.

Heimbach-Steins is a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics and the Theological Commission of the Catholic German Women's Association , as well as a founding member of the AGENDA - Forum of Catholic Theologians . Likewise, she has been a member of the Societas ethica ( European Society for Ethical Research ), the scientific advisory board of the Berlin Institute for Christian Ethics and Policy Consulting (ICEP), just as the network Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church and the Working Group for human rights and cultural traditions of the German Commission Justitia et Pax .
