Konrad Hentrich (born October 10, 1880 in Leinefelde , † June 22, 1972 in Hamburg ) was a German linguist and university professor .

Life

Konrad Hentrich was born on October 10, 1880 in Leinefelde and graduated from the Heiligenstädter Gymnasium in 1901 . He then studied German, English and French at the universities of Munich , Berlin and Greifswald . In 1905 received his doctorate he in Greifswald Dr. phil. and passed the state examination in 1906. Together with Klemens Löffler, he initiated the publication of the magazine Unser Eichsfeld in 1906 and the founding of the Association for Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde. In Greifswald, he became of Alexander Reifferscheid in the folklore introduced and wrote a thesis on the dialect of the Eichsfeld . Hentrich worked in the experimental phonetic laboratory of the Collège de France in Paris with Jean-Pierre Rousselot. He then worked at various high schools, including in Düren , Essen , Mönchengladbach and Cologne .

Due to his knowledge of the language and dialect , he was appointed as a research assistant at the phonetic institute of the University of Hamburg in 1921 . Since 1921, he first worked as a lecturer later as professor of German philology at the University in Riga . From 1925 to 1933 he was responsible for training the student trainees as a lecturer and specialist in speech studies at the educational seminar in Hamburg- Altona . During this time he came into contact with Albert Einstein and Max Planck . From 1933 until his retirement, caused by the National Socialist authorities, he worked as a teacher at the Christianeum high school in Hamburg .

Konrad Hentrich died on June 22, 1972, he was buried in the main cemetery in Altona .
