Joseph Maria Homeyer (born September 18, 1814 in Lüderode im Eichsfeld ; † October 5, 1894 in Duderstadt ) was a German music teacher, organist and a contemporary piano and organ virtuoso.

Life

Josef Maria grew up in Duderstadt from 1817 after his father Johann Joseph Adam Homeyer took over the organist's office at the local St. Cyriakus Church in the same year . Musically gifted, the young Josef Maria was taught by his father, then he attended the Progymnasium in Duderstadt and the grammar schools in Heiligenstadt and Hildesheim . During and after his studies he worked as a music teacher, gave concerts and traveled with theater and opera companies through numerous countries, which made him known in the musical world of that time. Within about 25 years, he made twelve tours through Germany , Italy , France , Switzerland , Belgium , Holland , England , Luxembourg , Austria , Hungary and Egypt . Successes and failures were given to him. A special encounter in those years was a private audience with Pope Gregory XVI. After the death of his father, he took over the post of organist (1867-1894) as his successor at the Creutzburg organ of St. Cyriakus Church in Duderstadt. From then on his life was quieter.
