Hans Wüthrich (composer)

Hans Wüthrich (born August 3, 1937 in Aeschi ; † March 20, 2019 in Arlesheim ) was a Swiss composer and linguist .

Life

Wüthrich came from a farming family. From 1952 to 1956 he attended the Muristalden Evangelical Teachers' Seminar ( Muristalden Campus ) in Bern. He then studied piano with Sava Savoff and music theory with Sándor Veress at the Bern Conservatory . From 1968 to 1972 he took composition lessons with Klaus Huber in Basel and Freiburg. He also studied music , literature and linguistics at the University of Zurich . In 1973 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The Consonant System of the German High Language .

From 1971 to 1985 he taught phonetics at the University of Zurich and the University of Basel . From 1985 to 2002 he was a lecturer in music theory , music analysis and ear training at the Zurich University of Music . His students include Nils Günther , Marianne Schroeder and Alfred Zimmerlin .

The first composition in his catalog of works dates from 1968, and he had created a total of 26 works by his death.

He was a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
