Meliton Balanchivadze
Meliton Antonowitsch Balantschiwadze ( Georgian მელიტონ ანტონის ძე ბალანჩივაძე ; * December 24, 1862 jul. / January 5, 1863 greg. In Banodscha (in today's municipality Zqaltubo ); † November 21, 1937 in Kutaisi ) was a Georgian composer , folk song collector and father the choreographer George Balanchine and the composer Andria Balantschiwadze .
Life
Meliton Balantschiwadze sang in church choirs in his childhood and later studied composition at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Nikolai Rimski-Korsakow and founded various music schools in Soviet Georgia after the (Russian) October Revolution . Balantschivadze is the founder of the Georgian national romance and the Georgian opera with The Insidious Daredshan based on the dramatic poem The Insidious Tamara by Akaki Tsereteli , written in 1897 (1912 Petersburg; 2nd version 1926 Moscow). He also wrote 1 cantata, Revolutionary Choirs and created the movements for numerous Georgian folk songs.
