Clarence Eddy

Clarence Eddy (* 1851 ; † 1937 ) was an American organist and composer .

The student of Dudley Buck was organist at the First Congregational Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Chicago and also toured the United States as a concert organist. On trips to Europe he studied in Berlin with Carl August Haupt and in Paris with César Franck , Charles-Marie Widor and Alexandre Guilmant , whose first concert tour he organized through the USA.

Eddy designed several large organs, emerged in his later years as a music critic and composed several organ works, including a Faust Fantasy , a Festival Prelude on the Old 100th and a Prelude in a minor . He was married to the singer and music educator Sara Hershey . In 2001, William Osborne published a biography of Eddie under the title Clarence Eddy (1851-1937), Dean of American Organists ( ISBN 0-913499-17-X ).
