Winfried Schlepphorst (born May 31, 1937 in Osnabrück ; † September 24, 2006 there ) was a German musicologist , cathedral organist , organ curator and professor .

Life

After graduating from high school Carolinum in Osnabrück, Winfried Schlepphorst studied church music , organ and conducting in Cologne , where he passed the state examination (A) for church music and the entrance qualification for organ in 1963. In parallel, he took in Cologne on the study of musicology, he in Munster continued where he in 1974 Rudolf Reuter on the subject of organs and organ building in western Lower Saxony doctorate .

From 1959 to 1986 Schlepphorst was cathedral organist at St. Peter's Cathedral in Osnabrück, official organ expert for the Osnabrück diocese and head of diocesan church music training at the Osnabrück C-seminar. In 1963 he accompanied the new construction of the large cathedral organ of the Franz Breil company from Dorsten on the west gallery of the Osnabrück cathedral.

Between 1975 and 1984 he was head of the Catholic Church Music department at the University of the Arts (HfK) Bremen , where he was professor of artistic and liturgical organ playing as well as Gregorian chant and the history of church music . He also held a teaching position at Vechta University . He was one of the initiators of the Osnabrück Church Music Days founded in 1979 .

In 1984 he succeeded Rudolf Reuter in the musicological seminar of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) in Münster, where he also took over the management of the organ research center. In the same year Schlepphorst began his work as an expert for organ monument maintenance at the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) . His important restoration projects included the organs of Johann Patroclus Möller in Borgentreich and in the Marienfeld Abbey (Münsterland) , the Vorenweg organ in the Cappenberg Abbey and the Treutmann organ in Grauhof Abbey . In 1999 he initiated an international conference with university professors and organ experts on the subject of problems, possibilities and limits of organ monument preservation in Münster Castle .

From 1984 to 2002 Winfried Schlepphorst was the editor of the publication series of the Organ Science Research Center . In 2002 he retired and died in Osnabrück in 2006.
