Organ expert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An organ expert is a person who, as an expert, deals with the organ as an instrument and provides expert advice to appropriate bodies or organ owners. Organ experts are z. B. for organ restorations, new organs or for the general condition assessment of an instrument.

Both the Protestant and the Catholic Church in Germany stipulate that an organ expert can be “officially” appointed as responsible by a higher authority for larger organ building projects in the individual communities. Some regional churches / dioceses have set up full-time positions for this purpose (often in conjunction with the bell expert ), in other regional churches the organ experts are generally freelance in addition to their main job and are appointed for a certain period of time.

The tasks of an organ expert are in particular:

  • Advice on complications in connection with care and maintenance measures,
  • Advice on planned organ building measures,
  • Creation of a specification of services as the basis for an invitation to tender or a request for an offer,
  • Advice on the selection of suitable organ builders and
  • Assessment of the condition of an organ and submission of suggestions for action.

Even if the Association of Organ Experts in Germany ("VOD", founded in 1971) is increasingly trying to standardize training, there is still no uniform training or occupation profile. In the past in particular, it was common for musicologists to hold this position .

In the Evangelical Church in Württemberg , the office of organ expert is carried out by selected church music directors and district cantors, who are specially trained in organology because they have been trained as organ builders on the one hand, and on the other hand they undergo special professional training. The office is called organ keeper there .

Since 2007, the State University of Music Trossingen has offered an international master's degree in OrganExpert to train organ experts ; however, this course was discontinued due to accreditation problems.
