From 1961 to 1963 he attended the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music . In 1964 he received a commission from WDR to compose the electronic music "version". In 1965/66 he was composer in residence at the State University of New York in Buffalo . Michael von Biel had lived in Cologne since 1966, where he came into contact with artists from the Fluxus movement. In 1968/69 he studied with Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Since then, mainly works in the visual field have emerged. He has lived in Tübingen since his wife's death in 2005 .

Von Biel composed a. a. three string quartets ( 1st string quartet , 1962; 2nd string quartet , 1962; quartet with accompaniment , 1965), electronic works ( version , 1963/64; declination , 1965), a cello concerto, many works for cello solo and piano music. His Jagdstück (1966) for brass, double bass, tape and (garden) grills with microphones is probably partly influenced by Biel's contacts with artists of the Fluxus movement.
