Carol Sloane
Carol Sloane (actually Carol Morvan , * 5. March 1937 in Providence , Rhode Iceland ) is an American jazz - singer .
Live and act
Carol Sloane began her career when she was fourteen when she performed with Ed Drew's band in her hometown. In 1958 she sang in Larry Elgar's orchestra, who advised her to change her name to "Sloane". In 1961 she jumped in for Annie Ross in the formation Lambert , Hendricks and Ross at their concerts in New York's Village Vanguard . In the same year she performed at the Newport Jazz Festival , which led to a recording contract with Columbia Records . The big record label, however, marketed her as a kind of second Barbra Streisand , which by no means wanted to fit her warm, calm jazz phrasing. A number of albums were made in the early 1960s and are now out of print.
By the 1980s, Carol Sloane had developed into a mature jazz singer; She recorded a number of albums for smaller record labels such as Contemporary Records , Concord or High Note and was popularized by jazz musicians such as u. a. Art Farmer , Rufus Reid , Kenny Barron , Phil Woods , Steve Turre and Frank Wess . In recent years she has performed mainly in Japan, where she has a steady fan base, as well as on the northeast coast of the United States and in New York .
