Peter Tonger (born March 22, 1937 ) is a German music publisher , choir director and reciter .

Live and act

Tonger comes from a Cologne publishing family; the (later) Edition Tonger was founded in 1822 by Augustin Josef Tonger (1801–1881). He attended the Kreuzgasse high school in Cologne and completed an apprenticeship in the music trade in Freiburg im Breisgau , followed by studying school music in Berlin and an internship at a Viennese music publisher, before his father Peter Josef Tonger (III) (called Hans; 1902–1965) 1989) as a partner in the publishing house. After the death of his father in 1989, Peter Tonger, now in the fifth generation, took over the management of the publishing house. Its authors include a. Jürg Baur , Violeta Dinescu , Jindřich Feld , Georg Katzer , Richard Rudolf Klein , Hans Georg Pflüger , Iris Szeghy , Dimitri Terzakis and Stanley Weiner .

Tonger, who was Vice President of the State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia until 2011 , has headed a choral society since 1975, the men's quartet "Frohsinn" in 1925 in Cologne-Immendorf . Tonger performed as a reciter in Cologne a. a. with readings from Marcel Proust's Eine Liebe Swanns and from Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections .
