Iris Szeghy

Iris Szeghy (born March 5, 1956 in Prešov ) is a Slovak - Swiss composer .

Life

Iris Szeghy comes from a Hungarian family and grew up in Slovakia. She completed her composition studies in 1989 at the Musikhochschule in Bratislava with a dissertation. After the fall of the Wall, she went on scholarship and composition stays in various European countries and the USA - including the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, the Hamburg State Opera , the STEIM studio in Amsterdam, and the University of Californiain San Diego, in the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede near Bremen, in the Künstlerhäuser Boswil, Willisau, Stein am Rhein in Switzerland, in the Fundación Valparaiso in Mojácar in Spain, in the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, in the studios of the Swiss Landis Foundation & Gyr in London and Budapest etc. Since 2001 Iris Szeghy has lived and worked as a freelance composer in Zurich .

Works

Szeghy's catalog of works includes orchestral, chamber music, solo and vocal works that are performed in concerts and festivals around the world. She has received composition commissions from the Bratislava Music Festival, the Hilliard Ensemble , the Pro Helvetia Cultural Foundation , the Musikpodium Zürich, the Melos-Ethos Festival and numerous ensembles and musicians worldwide. In 2016 she represented Switzerland (SGNM / ISCM Switzerland) at the ISCM World New Music Days in Tongyeong, Korea.
