Olaf Kübler (* 8. September 1937 in Berlin ) is a German jazz - saxophonist . He is also known by the alias Olaf Stiletti .

Life

Kübler, who grew up with his mother in Gießen after the end of the Second World War , discovered jazz and blues music through the Americans stationed there . At the age of 17 he received an alto saxophone. In 1958 he played in the Mac Reimann Sextet in Marburg (awarded at the amateur festival in Düsseldorf). In 1959 he studied jazz with Kurt Edelhagen in Cologne ; as a tenor saxophonist he was a member of the Jazz Cookers (with Manfred Schoof , Alexander von Schlippenbach and Jaki Liebezeit ). Then he went on tour with Gunter Hampel . After two years in Switzerland, he moved to Munich in 1966, where he played with Don Menza , Benny Bailey and in the Joe Haider Quintet and was involved in the recordings of the film composer Peter Thomas . In 1967 he took part in the Montreux Jazz Festival with the BR Jazz Ensemble under Pepsi Auer .

In 1969 he switched to rock and pop music , where he became known as the manager and producer of the band Amon Düül II . He made film and television music with Klaus Doldinger and was one of the founding members of the band Passport .

1973 began a more than ten-year collaboration with Udo Lindenberg ; among other things, he took part in the legendary appearance of Lindenberg in Moscow . In 1979 he sued Lindenberg for some formulations in his texts, allegedly from Kübler, for 500,000 marks in damages. The legal dispute was settled out of court in 1981; another lawsuit was dismissed by the court in 2010.

In 1978 he started working with Eberhard Schoener . He also played for the pop group The Police (saxophone solo of the single "Low Life" ). The following year he made a tour of Bavaria with the blues bard Willy Michl . 1980 to 1982 he played in the band of Marius Müller-Westernhagen . Between 1985 and 1990 he developed a close artistic relationship with Paul Millns , with whom he recorded "Finally Falls the Rain", among others . Through Millns he found his way back to his jazz roots. Today he lives near Frankfurt .
