Cirilo Vila Castro

Cirilo Vila Castro (* 1937 in Santiago de Chile ; † July 23, 2015 there ) was a Chilean conductor , composer and pianist .

Life

Vila Castro studied piano and composition with Alfonso Letelier and Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt at the Universidad de Chile from 1954 to 1961 . He then studied conducting with Franco Ferrara at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome and with Pierre Dervaux at the École Normale de Musique de Paris . From 1964 to 1969 he took private lessons with Max English . Most recently he was a professor in Chile; he trained generations of Chilean composers.
