Pierre Dervaux

Pierre Jean Émile Dervaux (born January 3, 1917 in Juvisy-sur-Orge , † February 20, 1992 in Marseille ) was a French conductor , composer and music teacher .

Dervaux was born in 1917 in a parish near Paris. He studied piano with Isidore Philipp and Yves Nat at the Paris Conservatory as well as counterpoint and harmony with Marcel Samuel-Rousseau , Jean and Noël Gallon .

In 1945 he made his debut as a conductor with the Orchester Pasdeloup. From 1947 to 1953 he was chief conductor of the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and from 1949 to 1955 deputy director of the Concerts Pasdeloup. From 1956 to 1972 he was the first conductor and orchestra leader of the Paris Opera . From 1968 to 1975 he was the Quebec Symphony Orchestra. In 1971 he became artistic director of the Orchester national des Pays de la Loire (ONPL) and was also music director of the Nice Opera from 1979 to 1981 . He has been a guest conductor in the US, Asia and Europe. He conducted world premieres a. a. by Darius Milhaud , Jean Françaix , Henry Barraud , Emmanuel Bondeville and Pierre Capdevielle .

From 1964 to 1986 he taught at the École Normale de Musique de Paris , from 1965 to 1972 at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and from 1972 to 1981 at the International Summer Academy in Nice. His students included u. a. Jean-Claude Casadesus , Sylvain Cambreling , Dominique Rouits , Adrian McDonnell , Georges Aperghis , Patrick Juzeau , Patrick Botti , Jean Leccia and Jean-Pierre Wallez . He composed orchestral and chamber music.
