Jean-Pierre Wallez

Jean-Pierre Wallez (born March 18, 1939 in Lille ) is a French violinist and music teacher .

Wallez studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and was a winner of the 1960 Paganini Competition in Geneva. From 1968 to 1983 he was director of the Ensemble Instrumental de France. At the same time he was principal violinist of the Orchester de Paris under the direction of Georg Solti and later Daniel Barenboim . In 1978 he founded the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris , which he directed until 1986.

He worked with numerous well-known musicians, including Isaac Stern , Mstislaw Rostropowitsch , Henryk Szeryng , David Oistrach , Yehudi Menuhin , Paul Tortelier , Arto Noras , Maurice Gendron , Jean-Pierre Rampal , Maurice André , Pierre Barbizet , Paul Badura-Skoda , Aldo Ciccolini , Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli , José van Dam , Jean Philippe Lafond , Gabriel Bacquier , Gundula Janowitz , Kiri Te Kanawa , Pierre Boulez , Georges Prêtre , Bernard Haitink and Zubin Mehta . He is particularly interested in the music of contemporary composers, and he has played works by André Jolivet , Marcel Landowski , Jacques Bondon , Antoine Tisné , Jean Martinon and Jean-Louis Florentz, among others .

As a conductor he has performed with the Orchester National De Lille , the Orchester National des Pays de la Loire , the Orchester National de Nancy , the Orchester National de Nice , the Orchester National d'Auvergne , the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte Carlo , the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg , the Malmö Orchestra , Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia , the radio orchestras of Radiotelevisione Italiana , Turin, and RIAS , Berlin, the Radio Sofia Symphony Orchestra , the Richmond Orchestra , the Vienna Chamber Orchestra , the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra , the orchestra the royal by Copenhagen and others. Wallez teaches violin at the Geneva Conservatory and gives master classes worldwide.
