Pierre Barbizet

Pierre Barbizet (born September 20, 1922 in Arica , † January 19, 1990 in Marseille ) was a French pianist and music teacher.

Barbizet spent his childhood in Chile. He studied piano with Armand Ferté at the Conservatoire de Paris and received first prizes in the subjects of piano (1944), music history and chamber music. At Cabaret Gay Relais he appeared in a trio with Samson François and Pierre Petit . In 1948 he won the grand prize at the international piano competition in Scheveningen, and the following year he won fifth prize at the Concours International Marguerite Long - Jacques Thibaud . He became known as a piano soloist with works by Mozart , but also as an interpreter of works by contemporary composers such as Serge Nigg . He also enjoyed international success in a duo with violinist Christian Ferras . From 1963 he directed the Conservatory of Marseilles, where Hélène Grimaud and Laurent Korcia were among his students.
