Peter Damm

Peter Damm (born July 27, 1937 in Meiningen / Thuringia ) is a German horn player i. R.

Life

Peter Damm began his instrumental training on the violin at the age of 11 . He made his first attempts on the French horn in 1951 with Franz Nauber (1911–2001). He then worked as a forestry apprentice for a short time before studying horn with Karl Biehlig between 1951 and 1957 at the Weimar Music Academy .

In 1957 he was appointed solo horn player in the orchestra of the Gera stages . From 1959 to 1969 he played in the same position with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under the direction of Franz Konwitschny , Václav Neumann and other famous conductors . From 1969 to 2002 Damm was a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden .

He also worked as a professor for horn at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden , and led international master classes, seminars and workshops in Europe , Japan and North America .

Damm is an honorary member of the International Horn Society , the Horn Society Bavaria and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden .
