Manfred Scherzer

Manfred Scherzer (born June 2, 1933 in Dresden ; † December 1, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German violinist and conductor.

Life

Manfred Scherzer had violin lessons from his father, a member of the Saxon State Orchestra in Dresden , from the age of five . At the age of 17 he was engaged by Rudolf Kempe at the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. At the age of 20, Walter Felsenstein brought him to the Komische Oper Berlin as first concertmaster . Manfred Scherzer's international career as a violin soloist began with a performance of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto. Shortly afterwards he made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker . Guest tours have taken him to the centers of almost all European countries, North and South America, Japan and China as well as to the major music festivals. 1973–1975 he was soloist and first concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra .

Manfred Scherzer has received numerous national and international awards. He was the founder and conductor of the Dresden Chamber Orchestra and the Berlin Virtuoso . The international press described him as a master of sensitive tones and praised the depth of his design.

In 1976 he was appointed professor at the "Carl Maria von Weber" Academy of Music in Dresden .

Manfred Scherzer has recorded several records and CDs, including a. at Eterna . In 2007 claXL released a CD with works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn, on which Scherzer can be heard as the duo partner of the German pianist Jürgen Schröder . These are historical recordings from the German Broadcasting Archive that were made in 1971 and 1977.
