Wilhelm Huebner
Wilhelm Hübner (born November 12, 1915 in Prague , † January 30, 2004 in Dresden ) was a German composer , conductor and music writer .
Life
Wilhelm Hübner studied conducting and composition at the German Academy for Music and Theater in Prague and was then choir director at the theater in Aussig an der Elbe ( Ústí nad Labem ). After the Second World War , Hübner became a répétiteur and later conductor at the Dresden State Opera in 1945 . From 1949 to 1952 he was musical director at the Theater Quedlinburg and from 1952 to 1956 as Kapellmeister at the Theater Erfurt . Further biographical stations were: 1956 to 1960 freelance composer, pianist and conductor; 1960 to 1966 first Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Halle and 1966 to 1968 in the same position at the Magdeburg Theater . Wilhelm Hübner was freelance again since 1968 and has lived in Dresden ever since.
Artistic importance
His numerous compositions include orchestral works, chamber music , piano pieces, choral works and songs. The stage works include theater music (to “The Great Day” by Beaumarchais , to “ Faust ” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , to the “Comedy of Errors” by William Shakespeare ), the ballet “The Temptation” (Dresden 1978) and the children's opera “ O dear Florian ”. Hübner wrote the libretti for two operas by other composers : “In Schilda the devil is loose” by Walter Draeger (Dessau 1968) and “Der Zauberfisch” by Fidelio F. Finke (Dresden 1978).
Since 1972, Hübner has written more than 800 music reviews as well as numerous essays and essays for the magazines "Musik und Gesellschaft", "Das Orchester" and "Hudevbné Noviny". His articles “Awake sense, friendliness to singers and noblesse” speak of his great expertise and theater experience. On the requirements of a conductor in the opera ”(Das Orchester 6/1993) and“ Music from the pit. On the role of the orchestra in the opera ”(Das Orchester 10/1994).
His younger brother is the philosopher Kurt Hübner .
