International Horn Society

The International Horn Society (IHS) is a professional society that brings together horn players from all over the world. It was founded in 1970 at the 2nd international horn workshop in Tallahassee Florida / USA.

The society aims to promote performance practice , teaching methodology and composition . In addition, the research, preservation and promotion of the French horn as a musical instrument should be supported. The IHS has a program to support young musicians studying the horn .

The society has over 3,500 members from 55 countries. The members include famous soloists, orchestral musicians , university teachers , students and horn makers , composers , music publishers and amateur horn players of all ages.

With The Horn Call , the society publishes a specialist journal that appears annually. Jeffrey Snedeker is currently the chairman of the IHS.

Since 1985 the company has presented the IHS Punto Award, named after Giovanni Punto , every year .
