Erich Penzel

Arthur Erich Penzel (born August 5, 1930 in Leipzig ) is a German horn player.

Penzel received his training as a horn player from Wilhelm Krüger and Albin Frehse . In his hometown of Leipzig he was principal horn in the Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1949 to 1961 and was appointed professor during this time. From 1961 to 1972 he was principal horn in the symphony orchestra of the West German Radio in Cologne . He was also a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra .

He taught at the Detmold University of Music , was a professor at the Cologne University of Music and at the Maastricht University of Music .

Among his students are some well-known horn players such as Christian Lampert , Stefan Dohr , Hermann Märker , Marie-Luise Neunecker , Lars Michael Stransky , Will Sanders , Joachim Pöltl , Wilfried Krüger , Jens Plücker and Robert Vogel. The writer Nikola Anne Mehlhorn also studied with Erich Penzel Horn.

In 2004 Erich Penzel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, for his outstanding achievements .
