Political commitment
Nikola Anne Mehlhorn stands in the tradition of politically committed writers such as Heinrich Böll or Günter Grass . Not only her work as a board member in the VS - Association of German Writers in ver.di , but also her literary commitment against anti-Semitism, exclusion and racism should be mentioned. In December 2015 Nikola Anne Mehlhorn initiated the campaign “Artists against right-wing extremism. Benefit events in favor of regional and international aid projects ”. Numerous artistic events in Schleswig-Holstein make statements against the law and donate financial support to aid organizations. In 2016 - due to current events - the organization SOS Méditerranée / European Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People in the Mediterranean was the focus of the series of events. The Schleswig-Holstein member of the state parliament and cultural policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group, Beate Raudies , is the patron of the “Artists against right-wing extremism” campaign .
