Nadka Karadschowa

Nadka Karadschowa (common transliteration Nadka Karadzova , Bulgarian Надка Караджова ; born March 14, 1937 in Tri Wodizi , Bulgaria ; † January 3, 2011 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian folklore singer and was part of the choir of the national ensemble "Filip Kutew" for over 40 years .

Life

At the age of fifteen Nedka Karadschowa became part of the national dance ensemble and choir " Filip Kutew ". With the ensemble she had over 13,500 concerts in Bulgaria and abroad, she recorded over 300 songs and released 27 solo albums. Over 150 of her recordings belong to the Bulgarian Radio Gold Fund . With the national ensemble she recorded the records Le Mystère des voix bulgares (in English: The secret of the Bulgarian voices ), for which she was nominated for a Grammy .

In 1978 she won a music competition on the British broadcaster BBC -2 with the song Заблеяло ми агънце . After the competition, the song was released in the UK and went platinum . In 1994 Karadschowa was included in the Encyclopedia of World Music .

In 1991 she founded with her daughter Svetla and with the singers Liljana Galewska and Stojanka Lalowa (all soloists of the National ensembles), the quartet Slawej (bulg. Славей) and gave concerts in Bulgaria and abroad. With the quartet she recorded an album in the Japanese series Bulgarian Polyphony .

Nadka Karadschowa died on January 3, 2011 in Sofia after a heart attack, four days after her last public appearance on the Komizite program.

Honors

For her contribution to the preservation of Bulgarian folklore and her musical talent, Karadschowa was honored with several awards and decorations, including the orders " Cyrillos and Methodius " (1971, 3rd level), " People's Republic of Bulgaria " (1993, 3rd level) and " Stara Planina “(1997, 2nd grade); the awards Honored People's Artist of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , Bratislava (1975) and Nestinarka (2006) of the International Folklore Festival of Burgas .

After her death, Bulgarian television recorded the documentary "Славеите на Надка Караджова". In March 2011 the Slawej Quartet was renamed the Nadka Karadschowa Quartet .
