Order classes

The order consists of three classes and is divided into two departments for civil and military merit.

Order decoration

The medal of the individual classes is different. The Grand Cross is a golden, white enameled star with the Bulgarian heraldic animal, a standing lion , between the eyelet and the suspension . The medal of the 1st and 2nd class is also a star, but it has split and different lengths of silver rays in the corners. If the Order for Military Merit is awarded, until 2003 crossed swords were attached between the order symbol and the lion.

With the change of the statutes of May 29, 2003, the order received slight visual changes. The rays of the 1st and 2nd class are now uniformly long and the lion is crowned and surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath. The swords are now crossed behind the lion and the wreath.
