Michal Rovner (born 1957 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli photographer and video artist .

Life

Michal Rovner did military service and studied film, television and philosophy at Tel Aviv University and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem . Since 1988 she has also been working in New York City .

In her first appearance at the Biennale di Venezia in 2003 she showed Against Order? Against Disorder? In 2005 she was invited to the Jeu de Paume in Paris with the video production Fields of Fire , for which Heiner Goebbels composed the noises. Goebbels made her first appearance in Germany at the Ruhrtriennale in 2012 with Current .

In 2008 she received an honorary doctorate from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and in 2010 she was appointed Chevalier des Ordre des Arts et des Lettres . For 2018 she was awarded the EMET Prize for Culture and Art.
