Amand Schwantge

Amand Schwantge (born June 4, 1933 in Sagan ; † February 8, 2006 in Colditz ) was a German horn player and music teacher.

Life

Amand Schwantge first began to study Kapellmeister, but switched to the horn for health reasons and studied with Albin Frehse at the University of Music in Leipzig. After engagements in Gotha in 1957 and in Erfurt in 1958, he was a member of the Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1961 , initially in the position of 2nd horn player, from 1977 to 1999 as 4th horn player. He performed as a soloist with the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Amand Schwantge taught as a horn teacher at the Special School for Music in Halle and at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig .

In 2006 Amand Schwantge died of suicide in Colditz .
