Franz Kaim (born May 13, 1856 in Kirchheim unter Teck ; † November 17, 1935 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) was a concert organizer and royal Württemberg councilor. Kaim founded the Kaim Orchestra in 1893 , the predecessor of the orchestra of the Munich Concert Association and later the Munich Philharmonic . Today this is an internationally renowned German top orchestra.

Life

Kaim was the son of the piano manufacturer in Stuttgart Franz Kaim (1822–1901) and Karoline Pauline Krais (1828–1900). His grandfather was the instrument maker in Kirchheim unter Teck Franz Anton Kaim, a brother of Heinrich Kaim . Franz Kaim studied philology in Tübingen. During his studies in 1874 he became a member of the Tübingen royal society Roigel . He received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and worked as a lecturer at the Polytechnic University of Stuttgart . Since 1891 he has organized piano and singing evenings under the title "Kaimkonzerte", both to make his father's instruments known in Munich and to create a podium for talented soloists, especially pianists and singers. The establishment of the Kaim Hall in Munich in 1895, which was later called the Tonhalle, goes back to him .

Because of his success, he decided to start an orchestra. Thanks to attractive programming, subscription concerts and, since 1898, folk symphony concerts and popular Sunday concerts, this orchestra quickly achieved supra-regional importance in Germany and was able to carry out successful guest tours to Holland, Austria and Italy. Kaim founded the Munich Philharmonic Choir in 1895 and the famous spa concerts in Bad Kissingen in 1899 .

In 1882 he married Beirut Emilie Jacho-Ilg and on March 22, 1892 he was married to Karoline Schirndinger von Schirnding in Nuremberg . In 1905 he moved with his family to Kirchheim unter Teck, his hometown.
