Georg Gröne

Georg Heinrich Gröne (born March 11, 1864 in Dresden , † October 4, 1935 in Saalhausen ) was a German sculptor .

He began his training in 1878 with studies with the sculptor Oskar Rassau in Dresden. From 1878 to 1885 he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden , most recently as a master student with Ernst Julius Hähnel . He used its neo-classical language of forms very often in his works. From 1887 to 1889 he was then a student of Johann Rößner in Nuremberg . From 1889 he lived permanently in Dresden.

He belonged to the Dresden artist circle and with the painters (including the Goppelner School ) Max Pietschmann, Georg Jahn, Georg Müller-Breslau , R. Besig, von Hugo, Otto Tischer, Anton Pepino, Hermann Prell , the sculptors Martin Engelke , Peter Pöppelmann , P. Fabricius, Bruno Fischer and the architects Kurt Diestel , Julius Graebner and Martin Pietzsch are among the artists who had their regulars' table in Dresden-Loschwitz from 1894 to 1898 in the restaurant "Mutter Unger's Weinstuben" . Gröne died in Dresden in 1935 and was buried on October 15, 1935 at the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden (grave location 4th arch, grave 61).

  • 1885: Large silver medal from the Academy for the figures "The Fisherman" (base relief), "Cain" and "Vulkan forges arrows for Cupid"
