Peter Pöppelmann (born April 24, 1866 in Harsewinkel , Westphalia , † November 6, 1947 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor , graphic artist and medalist .

Peter Pöppelmann was born in Harsewinkel as the son of the carpenter Ferdinand Pöppelmann and Gertrud Pöppelmann . In 1881 the family moved to Oelde and Pöppelmann began training as a carpenter as well as a stonemason and wood sculptor. In 1886 he worked as a journeyman in various carpentry shops in Münster before he began his artistic training there with the sculptor Heinrich Fleige .

In 1890, Pöppelmann worked for the sculptor Bernhard Kurt Roch in Dresden. There he was able to develop his artistic talent. In 1897 he received the gold medal of the Dresden academy exhibition. In 1900 he became a member of the Dresden Art Academy , in 1906 an extraordinary member of the Berlin Secession and in 1907 an honorary member of the Dresden Academy of the Arts. In 1909 he was a founding member of the Dresden Artists' Association . Peter Pöppelmann was also a member of the German Association of Artists .

Works by Peter Pöppelmann can be found in the State Art Collection in Dresden, as well as in museums in Karlsruhe , Leipzig , Oldenburg , Glauchau and Freital . He died on November 6, 1947 at the age of 81 in Dresden. His grave is in the local Johannisfriedhof . His hometown Harsewinkel has had a cast of the bronze sculpture Die Badende since 2001 and a copy of the plaque No Wealth Is Like You, O Health , since 2015 , which was published in 1911 on the occasion of the International Hygiene Exhibition .
