Jo van den Booren

Jo van den Booren (born March 14, 1935 in Maastricht , Netherlands ) is a Dutch composer and conductor .

From 1945 to 1952 he studied trumpet with Hubert Cardous at the Musiklyceum in Maastricht . From 1954 to 1956 he studied trumpet in Amsterdam with Marinus Komst , composition with Antoon Maessen , Louis Toebosch , Ton de Leeuw and Kees van Baaren . Further composition studies followed at the conservatory in Basel with Klaus Huber from 1956 to 1967.

As a 17-year-old he worked at the Brabants Orkest in 's-Hertogenbosch . Together with other musicians, he founded the Resonans Foundation and the Resonans Brass Quintet in Den Bosch , both for the performance of contemporary music. He regularly conducted ensembles from the Brabants Orkest and led the orchestra when performing his own works. After that, he devoted himself fully to composing.

His oeuvre consists of works for symphony orchestra, chamber music, choir, organ, film music, concerts for solo instruments and wind orchestra. Individual works have been awarded composition prizes. In 1994 he was appointed a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Dutch Queen .
