Franco Oppo

Franco Oppo (born October 2, 1935 in Nuoro , Sardinia , † January 14, 2016 ) was an Italian composer .

Oppo studied piano, choral music and composition at the Cagliari Conservatory until 1961 . He then studied composition with Giorgio Federico Ghedini , Virgilio Mortari , Goffredo Petrassi and Piotr Perkowski and studied electronic music with Franco Evangelisti . In 1966 he took part in the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music.

From 1965 to 2000 he taught composition and experimental composition at the Conservatory of Cagliari. He also taught music theory at the University of Cagliari from 1985 to 1987 and has been artistic director of the Spaziomusica festival for contemporary music since 1982 .

In addition to his compositional activity, he worked scientifically in the field of music theory and music ethnology and gave lectures at numerous international conferences.
