Georgios Kondylis ( Greek Γεώργιος Κονδύλης ; * 1879 in Prousos , Evritania ; † January 31, 1936 in Athens ) was a general and politician in Greece .

Georgios Kondylis began his military career in 1896 when he joined the Cretan insurgents against the Turks . He later fought in the two Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, in Macedonia during the First World War and in Asia Minor in the Greco-Turkish War . He was promoted to general in 1922, then left the army in July 1923 to run for parliament.

In October 1923, however, he again took command of part of the army in order to put down a royalist revolt led by Ioannis Metaxas , and then also helped to send King George II into exile. Georgios Kondylis founded his own party, the National Republicans, and was then Minister of War (1924) and Minister of the Interior (1924–1925). In August 1926 he deposed the military dictator Theodoros Pangalos in a bloodless coup and became Prime Minister himself (23 August 1926 - 4 December 1926).

In 1928 Georgios Kondylis changed his political views. So far he has always been on the side of the Venizelists and now ran over to the camp of the royalists.

He was Minister of War in the government of Panagis Tsaldaris (1932-1933, 1933-1935) and suppressed an uprising that had been initiated in Thessaloniki by Eleftherios Venizelos in March 1935. Kondylis declared that the republic had failed and advocated restoring the monarchy. In October 1935, high-ranking officers asked Prime Minister Panagis Tsaldaris either to resign or to restore the monarchy. When Tsaldaris resigned, he was replaced by the Minister of War, Kondylis.

From October 10, 1935 to November 30, 1935, Kondylis was Prime Minister and until the return of George II on November 3, 1935 also regent. On November 30th, Konstantinos Demertzis replaced Kondylis from his post as Prime Minister.
