Peter Thom (born February 6, 1935 in Berlin , † September 23, 2005 in Munich ) was a German actor and voice actor .

biography

Peter Thom grew up in Berlin and Hanover . After completing secondary school , he began an apprenticeship as a baker in 1952 , which he broke off after six months to attend the Hanover drama school. He received his first engagement in 1954 at the Landesbühne Hannover . From 1957 to 1958 he appeared at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover . He then worked in his native Berlin. First at the grandstand in Berlin (1959) and from 1962 to 1969 at the Schaubühne on Halleschen Ufer . From 1979 he was under contract at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich and from 1983 also at the Munich Volkstheater .

He came to film in the late 1950s. He was seen in his first leading role as early as 1959. He played the donkey in the fairy tale film The Bremen Town Musicians . Other films followed, such as The Juvenile Judge with Heinz Rühmann , The Young Sinner with Karin Baal and Today my husband quits me with Gert Fröbe . He was also quick to gain a foothold in television. He played his first major role in two episodes of the five-part street sweeper Am Green Beach on the Spree, based on the book by Hans Scholz . He played the underage Hans Wratislaw von Zehdenitz, who in August 1939 did not take the chance to escape the threatening war and fell in April 1945 shortly before Berlin. In the three-part crime classic The Keys by Francis Durbridge , he played the murder victim Phil Martin. He was also seen in many television series such as Kommissar Freytag , Das Kriminalmuseum and Hamburg Transit , as well as in television games such as Glasses and Bombs - You're Right With Us and The Salesman's Death .

Thom also worked as a radio play speaker. In the first few years he mostly played leading roles, such as in 1960 in Blown through , 1972 in Zeitklippe or 1971 in Horst M .: Lifelong . As a busy voice actor, his voice is known from many overseas television series, including The Simpsons , Task Force Police, and Muppet Show . He also frequently spoke minor supporting roles, such as in the dubbed version of the 1975 feature film Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman .

Because of health problems, his roles became increasingly smaller in the later years. Around 1998 he gave up his work in front of the camera, about three years later also his dubbing work. Thom, who had lived in Munich for many years, had been married since 1958 and had a daughter. On September 23, 2005, he committed suicide by jumping out of the 9th floor of his house. He is said to have been buried anonymously in the Munich forest cemetery.
