Butler Parker

Butler Parker is a humorous crime novel series by Günter Dönges (* 1923; † August 2001), who also works under the pseudonyms Glenn Larring, Dan Cillingh, John D. Acton and others. a. wrote.

The main character of the booklet novels is the English butler Josuah Parker , who works as an amateur detective and uses unusual methods to pull his opponents out of circulation, be it with his bowler hat lined with sheet steel, with his universal umbrella that shoots arrows or even with a trap door in the house entrance. Parker first worked in Chicago for the American lawyer Mike Rander . From volume 126 he works with Lady Agatha Simpson in London , who appears for the first time in volume 124. Her favorite "toy" is a pompadour filled with a horseshoe . Parker prefers to drive an old London taxi, but the extras put James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 in the shade.

The series of novels was published from 1953 to 1992 by various publishers. The first issues are published by Bastei-Verlag . After a few issues, the series switched to Zauberkreis-Verlag, where new novels appeared after the reprints. After 134 issues as part of the silver crime novels , the series was continued with new novels. The novels were later published as an independent series, which, however, began with No. 119. It ended in 1992 with the number 589; thus a total of 605 Parker novels appeared.

Television series

Butler Parker was also shown from 1972 to 1973 as the 26-part television series Butler Parker on ARD . The main role was played by the already from a Jerry Cotton film, a Durbridgekrimi and from the series Stahlnetz known Dirk Dautzenberg . Parker works for lawyer Mike Rander ( Eckart Dux ) in the television series . They are supported by the secretary Miss Vivi Carlson ( Stella Mooney ) and later Miss Jenny ( Gaby Dohm ), who was introduced because Stella Mooney became pregnant by the actor of the Cleveland gangster, Carl Schell . Gangster Cleveland is with the son of an American mafia godfather , Longness Junior ( Edgar Hoppe ), in the individual episodes that lead across Europe, lawyer Rander, his secretary and butler Parker on the heels to send them to the afterlife because Rander and Parker arranged for Longness Senior to be convicted. As in the booklet novels, their murder plans are "naturally" thwarted by Butler Parker every time in the series episodes.

Radio plays

Since October 2010, three stories from the Butler Parker series have been released as radio plays on the Zauberstern Records label . Lutz Riedel speaks to Butler Parker and David Nathan Mike Rander.

June 2013 the first episode of the Butler Parker-based series "The Butler" appeared on the label "Winterzeit Studios (Soulfood)". The butler is spoken here by Detlef Bierstedt (including George Clooney ). A second episode is announced for June 13, 2014.
