Butler Parker is a 26-part TV series of the ARD from 1972 to 1973. It is based on the humorous detective novel series Butler Parker by Günter Dönges , which also works under the pseudonyms Glenn Larring, Dan Cillingh, John D. Acton u. a. wrote. Dirk Dautzenberg played the main role in the series .
The focus of the series is the hobby detective Josuah Parker, who, together with his friend, lawyer Mike Rander, solves criminal cases all over Europe and repeatedly collides with two gangsters.
Series conception
Parker works for lawyer Mike Rander in Chicago. In the novels, Parker works for Lady Simpson from issue 126. The hobby detective is always getting in the way of the silly American gangsters Cleveland and Longness Junior, who were taken over from the magazine novels.
The leading role was played by Dirk Dautzenberg , who was already known from a Jerry Cotton film, a Durbridge thriller ( A man named Harry Brent ) and from the series Stahlnetz . Parker and Rander are supported by the secretary Miss Vivi Carlson ( Stella Mooney ) and later Miss Jenny ( Gaby Dohm ), who was introduced because Stella Mooney became pregnant by the actor of the Cleveland gangster, Carl Schell . For Gaby Dohm, the role of Miss Jenny was the first long series engagement on television.
Gangster Cleveland is with the son of an American Mafia godfather, Longness Junior ( Edgar Hoppe ), in the individual episodes that lead across Europe, lawyer Rander, his secretary and butler Parker on the heels to send them to the afterlife because Rander and Parker arranged for Longness Senior to be sentenced. As in the booklet novels, their murder plans are "naturally" thwarted by Butler Parker every time in the series episodes.
Dönges, who had previously written the television series Die Kramer in 1969 , had the idea for the series after a conversation with the head of entertainment at SWF, Hans Hirschmann. Seven existing episodes of novels were rewritten for the television series, and new scripts were written for 19 episodes. As a director, the director of the Kramer series Hans Müller was hired for three episodes. Jürgen Haase directed seven episodes and Wolf Vollmar sat in the director's chair or worked as a co-director for 19 episodes . The episodes were actually all shot on the European locations shown in the films, which meant a considerable logistical effort. For example, Parker's London taxi sometimes had to be driven hundreds of kilometers through Europe or transported by ship to a new location. The composer Werner Drexler wrote the theme music, which was rewritten halfway through the episodes, and Dieter Reith wrote the additional music for the episodes.
The series was practically shot in three seasons of eight, five and thirteen episodes, but aired in one piece with no long breaks. However, the production sequence was not adhered to during the broadcast, which sometimes led to inconsistencies in the framework. Numerous well-known supporting actors rounded off the ensemble, such as Margot Trooger , Judy Winter , Monika Peitsch , Barbara Valentin , Peter Fricke , Benno Hoffmann , Arthur Brauss , Michael Hinz , Wolfgang Büttner , Harald Dietl , Klaus Dahlen , Sigurd Fitzek , Rainer Basedow and many more .

media
As part of the street sweeper series , ARD Video published the 26-part television series in a restored version as the eighth edition in 2008 on DVD on four discs. The box also contains a final 32-minute interview with the leading actor Dirk Dautzenberg, who died on February 15, 2009. An interview with the film composer Peter Thomas allegedly on the DVDs , as stated on the two fold-out DVD covers, is misinformation.
