Anna Záborská (born June 7, 1948 in Zurich ) is a Slovak politician of the Kresťanská únia and from 2004 to 2019 a member of the European Parliament .

Záborská was a member of the KDH from 1990 to 2019 and founded the Kresťanská únia together with Branislav Škripek in February 2019 , of which she is still chairman.

Záborská studied medicine at the Comenius University in Bratislava and in 1978 became a specialist in ear, nose and throat medicine . Since 1993 she has held several offices in the Christian democratic party KDH, and from 1999 to 2000 she was the deputy chairperson responsible for international issues. From 1998 to 2004 she was a member of the Slovak Parliament , where she was a member of the EU-Slovakia Joint Parliamentary Committee that prepared Slovakia's EU accession in 2004 . From 2003 Záborská was an observer in the European Parliament ; in the 2004 European elections , in which Slovakia participated for the first time, she was elected as a member of parliament.

In the European Parliament Záborská belongs to the Christian Democrat conservative faction EPP-ED and was in the 2004-09 legislative session chairman in the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality and member of the Committee on Development .

In the following legislative period, she appeared by campaigning for a European early warning system against pedophilia and sexual harassment . A corresponding written declaration by the European Parliament was adopted by 371 of the 732 MEPs in June 2010. However, the proposal also met with criticism from other parliamentarians such as Cecilia Wikström , as it implies a data retention model .

From 2009 to 2014, Záborská is a member of the Development Committee, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, the Special Committee against Organized Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering and the Delegation for Relations with Canada. She is deputy in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety , in the Delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament and in the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
