Cecilia Wikström (born October 17, 1965 in Svanstein , Övertorneå ) is a Swedish politician of the Liberalerna and member of the European Parliament .

Life

Wikström studied theology at Uppsala University , where she did her Masters in 1993 . She then held various positions in the Church of Sweden until 2002 , including as university and prison pastor and as a member of the cathedral chapter of Uppsala Cathedral .

In 1998, Wikström was elected to the Provincial Parliament of Uppsala County . In the Swedish parliamentary elections in 2002 she won a seat in the Swedish parliament for the Liberals, who were then still standing as Folkpartiet liberalerna (FP), which she defended in 2006 . There she was a member of the committees for cultural and foreign affairs and was particularly committed to freedom of expression in Sweden and around the world. She has also headed a consulting company since 2001, and has been a member of the Swedish UNESCO Commission since 2002 .

In the European elections in Sweden in 2009 , she entered the FP on the list and got a seat in the European Parliament , for which she gave up her Reichstag mandate. In the European Parliament she joined like all FP deputies of the liberal group ALDE on. She is a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. She is deputy in the following delegations: - Delegation in the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee - Delegation in the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly - Delegation in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly

After her successful European elections in Sweden in 2014 , she became chair of the Petitions Committee (PETI) of the European Parliament.

On March 29, 2019, the Liberal Party in Sweden no longer nominated Cecilia Wikström on the list of candidates for EU parliaments.

Now Wikström seems to want either to become a MEP for Greece or to support a Greek candidate.

Wikström has published two books: in 2004 När livet går sönder appeared on crisis management, in 2006 I tillitens tecken , in which she dealt with the experience of a stroke that left her blind in one eye.

Wikström has been divorced twice and has two sons.
