Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality

The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) is one of the 20 committees of the European Parliament . It emerged from the Ad Hoc Committee on Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities formed in 1979, which became a standing committee in the European Parliament in 1984. The committee chairman has been Evelyn Regner ( SPÖ / S&D ) since July 2019 .

The committee's responsibilities include promoting women's rights in the European Union and in third countries, gender equality and combating discrimination, especially in the world of work, and the implementation of gender mainstreaming in the EU.

At the European Commission , gender equality is the responsibility of the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities .
