Evelyn Regner (born January 24, 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and has been a member of the European Parliament ( S&D ) since 2009 .

Life

Evelyn Regner was born in Vienna in 1966 and grew up in the second district of Vienna, Leopoldstadt , where she attended the Sigmund-Freud-Gymnasium and graduated from there. After finishing school, she studied law in Vienna and Salzburg.

At first Regner worked as a refugee advisor at Amnesty International . From 1996 she was a social policy expert for the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB). She then moved to Brussels , where she headed the ÖGB liaison office for almost nine years. In addition, she was a member of the European Economic and Social Committee, in which she campaigned for workers' rights.

In the meantime, the mother of two returned to Vienna to head the ÖGB EU and International Office before she was elected to the European Parliament in June 2009.

Regner is currently a member of the ÖGB Executive Board and the ÖGB Federal Executive Committee as well as a member of the Presidium of the Social Democratic Union (FSG) and the FSG federal parliamentary group executive committee.

European Parliament

Regner has been a member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) since June 2009 and belongs to the S&D group in the European Parliament. Since September 2015 she has been the head of the SPÖ delegation in the EU Parliament.

Regner's main topics in the EU Parliament

  • Tax justice: fair taxes for multinational corporations and the fight against tax evasion and tax fraud
  • Social Europe: Europe-wide application of collective agreements, minimum social standards, minimum income schemes and the fight against wage and social dumping
  • Employment: Employee participation in corporations through participation by trade unions in legislative negotiations in the EU and the formation of European works councils
  • Equality: eliminating income inequality and improving the social and economic position of women in Europe

Ninth term (2019-2024)

After the European elections in Austria in 2019 , she became chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) and a full member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) in the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament beginning on July 2, 2019. and substitute member of the Committee on employment and social Affairs (EMPL).

Eighth legislative term (2014-2019)

In the eighth electoral term (2014-2019) Regner is a full member of the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), she is also a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL), the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) and the Delegation to the EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-CL). Regner is also a full member of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT) and the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND) and the Special Committee on Financial Crime , Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAX3).

Seventh legislative term (2009-2014)

In the seventh electoral term (2009-2014) Regner was deputy chairwoman of the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), where she campaigned primarily for the rights of employees of transnational companies. She also advocated a balanced representation of men and women on supervisory boards.

For her work, she was nominated by Parliament Magazine for the MEP Award 2013 in the “Gender Equality” category. In addition, she was a deputy member of the Committee for Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL), which is responsible in the field of social policy for working conditions, vocational training and the free movement of employees and retirees. In November 2012 Evelyn Regner traveled to Istanbul and Ankara to draw attention to the “intolerable conditions in the work area” after more than 300 employees at Turkish Airlines were dismissed by SMS without notice and without handling.

Regner expressed his solidarity with the 20 former DHL employees who were dismissed due to their union membership, and most recently with those demonstrators who campaigned for more democracy in Turkey.

Evelyn Regner took part in the protest by the striking workers of Turkish Airlines in November 2012.

Evelyn Regner was the chief social democrat negotiator in the advisory committee on the code of conduct for members of the European Parliament. Between September 2012 and March 2013 she was chairman of this committee, which is supposed to "pat corrupt MPs on the fingers and examine the financial activities of parliamentarians."

From July 2011 Regner was also a deputy member of the Committee for Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), which dealt with the European Treaties and their implementation, but also with the relationship between the European institutions. She was also a member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND) and was a deputy member of the Delegation for relations with Israel (D-IL). Regner was also a deputy member of the special committee on political challenges and budgetary resources for a sustainable European Union after 2013.
