Dierhäger Moor nature reserve

The Dierhäger Moor nature reserve is a 104 hectare nature reserve in the area of the municipality of Dierhagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, one kilometer southwest of its main town. It was placed under protection on November 23, 1939 with the aim of protecting and developing rain bogs that were disturbed by peat extraction and drainage .

The current state of the area is assessed as unsatisfactory, as the water balance of the areas was severely disturbed by drainage measures.

There are no public roads in the protected area.

history

The Dierhäger Moor goes back to a sea sand plain between the Mecklenburg Bay and the Saaler Bodden . In the course of time the plain became mossy and a rain bog grew up. On Wiebeking's map from 1786, the bog is still free of wood and without drainage. It was surrounded by forest. In the 19th century hand peat cuttings were made, from 1918 the rain moor was considered to have been peated out. However, since no drainage ditches were created, the surrounding area of the moor could continue to develop naturally. Edge areas of the moor were grazed until the 1950s. A considerable intensification of use took place from 1960, as the groundwater was lowered by a pumping station. State hunting was practiced from the 1970s onwards with excessive red deer populations in the area.

Flora and fauna

Rare raised bog species such as swamp porst , peat moss , cotton grass and bell heather still occur occasionally. Weißes Schnabelried grows in the abandoned peat cuttings . The majority of the area is covered by a pine bog forest. Grass snake , adder , moor frog , common frog , forests and sand lizard and the otters live in the area. The crane has been proven to be a breeding bird.
