Setup date 1984

The nature reserve Torfstichgelände near Carlewitz has been a protected nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1984 . It covers 103 hectares , is not far north-east of the Marlower district of Carlewitz and about five kilometers south-east of the town of Ribnitz-Damgarten . The eastern border is the Recknitz . The state of the area is unsatisfactory due to ongoing drainage. The area cannot be reached on public roads. Part of the area has been owned by the National Natural Heritage Foundation of the Nature Conservation Union since 2009 .

history

The bog areas were uncultivated until the 18th century and were only used as meadows from then on. A growing fen was found in the south of today's protected area . The beginning of the drainage measures allowed woody plants to immigrate. From around 1915 peat was mined in the area to a depth of one meter for 20 years , using peat cutting machines. The area has been unused since the 1930s and is subject to succession.

Flora

Originally, the typical vegetation of the river valley bogs was found on locations rich in nutrients and lime with moss-rich sedge beds , reeds and orchids such as B. Swamp Sitter . Today the flora is interspersed with woody plants such as bog birch and willow species .
