The Vogelhaken Glewitz nature reserve is an 85 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It serves to maintain a coastal bird breeding area on the Strelasund northwest of the Zudar peninsula . He was deported on January 22, 1981.

The state of the area is classified as unsatisfactory. Predators such as fox , polecat and stone marten influence the breeding success to a large extent, which was hardly attenuated by the construction of a fence. Furthermore, the task of use is a problem: the meadows became bushy after grazing was stopped.

The area may not be entered. The nature reserve is located on private property and is cordoned off with a fence.

history

The landscape of the protected area was created during the last Ice Age , when the thawing inland ice lifted the landscape and the depressions were filled with water. So the Vogelhaken Glewitz remained as part of an undulating ground moraine as an island. The connection to the Zudar peninsula happened when beach ridges formed within the compensation coast . Since then, the Glewitzer Ort peninsula has separated the Glewitzer Wiek from the Strelasund. The up to three meter high cliff on the western edge of the peninsula is still active, so it is being eroded and set back.

Human use has only been documented since the 19th century. The original table sheet from 1835 shows the areas free of wood. Higher areas were used as arable land , the lower areas as grassland . A ski jump was set up in the eastern part of the area . The arable land was stopped in the 20th century. Grazing then took place in varying degrees of intensity by the landowner.
